Social Networks for the right people
I just had an interesting conversation with some college students. They all use facebook, but not the way that I did a few years ago. They don’t post any embarrassing pictures; they don’t have any revealing personal info; and they don’t visit the site very often.
Why is their use so different from what I experienced when the site was initially launched?
Long week…
It’s been a long week. Client presentation on Monday, so working all weekend.
After week one, I already broke my resolution to write on this blog every day… Hopefully things will lighten up next week.
Marketing 2.0
There’s an MVNO in the U.K. called Blyk, who provides free wireless service in exchange for advertisements on users’ phones. The service only works because it targets a specific segment – 16-24 year olds, making targeted advertising simple. The service is interesting, but what’s more interesting is their marketing strategy…
Thoughts on iPhone SDK and MS Exchange Support
I spent some time thinking about the SDK and MS Exchange Support, and apart from the obvious implications of Apple’s announcement, I think there is the more dramatic idea that this can really shake up the wireless industry in the U.S.
Nerd Heaven
I love it when pop culture looks at nerds favorably, like in this Mariah Carey video for “Touch My Body.”
“If there’s a camera in here, then I best not catch this flick on youtube…”
Mariah’s 38 years old, but is looking pretty good after loosing her marbles for a few years.
iPhone SDK Preview
Big day.. the SDK should finally be released today at 1pm EST. I’ll provide some thoughts… delayed by a few hours, based off of what I can pull out of real reports from people who are there.
Predictions: Apple is supposedly locking it down – it makes sense, they get a huge chunk of change (~$400) per iPhone from At&t, so they want to play nice. I’m sure there will be a jailbreak from whatever restrictions Apple puts on the SDK, but it will all go back to the same cat and mouse game: someone hacks the software –> Apple releases and update and shuts it down.
Hello World
So this is it. My first blog, and my first blog entry. Right now, with the amount of readers, it’s like talking to myself.
I think it will be useful to write a number of entries before I invite people to see this though, so that it at least looks like I have some content.
